BULGARIA - A German meat processing company is looking for suitable locations in North Bulgaria to build a meat processing plant.
Specific opportunities will be explored in Montana, Targovishte, Shumen, Ruse, Pleven and Razgrad.
The plans were announced following meeting of the executive directors of the company with the Economy Minister Bozidar Lukarski.
The name of the potential investor has not been revealed.
The German investor is reported to have indicated its intention to invest in Bulgaria during the minister’s visit to Germany in March
The company is reported to be a supplier of meat products to the food industry in Germany, Spain, Hungary, Slovenia, Romania and countries.
The company plans to build a manufacturing base in Bulgaria which weill initially provide between 60 and 80 jobs, which will later rise to 130.
"I hope that very soon we will have the occasion to announce the positive news about the selected location for the investment," said Minister Lukarski.
A team has been formed in the Ministry of Economy to prepare list of producers of poultry meat from Northern Bulgaria, which could be suppliers to processing plant.
The company is reported to be planning to find its supply of livestock locally which the ministry said would have the effect of increasing indirect jobs.
Production from the plant will be entirely for export, with the main market being Romania.
