Norway BSE Case Resolved

NORWAY – A case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) in Norway has seen all risk animals killed and incinerated.

Standard control measures were applied after Norway’s chief veterinary officer announced the outbreak, caused by an atypical type H prion in a 15 year old cow.

According to the World Organisation for Animal Health, the outbreak, communicated by the OIE on 29 January, was first confirmed domestically on 16 January.

The animal, imported from Sweden, was on a beef farm of 27 Highland Cattle.
