INDIA - Russia is to allow the import of buffalo meat from India.
The move comes as President Putin is set to visit with immediate effect, days ahead of President Vladimir Putin's visit to the country.
According to India’s APEDA AgriXchange the Russian veterinary authority Riosselkhoznador said that “Russia's veterinary and phytosanitary service Rosselkhoznadzor together with Kazakhstan's Agriculture Ministry has included Indian buffalo meat producers to the register of organisations and individuals involved in the production, processing and storage of goods transported to the territory of the Customs Union (of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan)."
Russian authorities are expected also to certify other Indian agricultural producers to supply poultry, powdered eggs and dairy products.
The move follows the ban on certain agricultural products from the EU and India together with several South American countries are now starting to fill the void.
Russian President Putin will visit India this week to strengthen bilateral strategic ties.
