AVEC Announces Changes in Organisation at General Assembly

08 October 2014

FRANCE - a.v.e.c., the association representing the poultry meat industry in the EU commemorated its 57th General Assembly in Marseille from 2 to 5 October 2014 with a gathering of an unprecedented number of participants; more than 160 delegates representing the whole poultry chain (breeders, hatcheries, slaughterhouses) have participated to the three-day event.

The theme of this year’s General Assembly of a.v.e.c. was 'Keeping poultry business profitable with European Standards'.

The two French a.v.e.c. members, FIA and CIDEF, co-hosted in an excellent way the successful 57th General Assembly.

After two years as president of the organization, Federico Felix from the Spanish association, Propollo, handed over the presidency to Paul Lopez, board member of the French association FIA, after having served four years as a vice-president of a.v.e.c.

Mr Lopez is from Brittany, the traditional main area of production for the poultry sector in France. He has been managing director of poultry companies in Glon Group (chicken, turkey and spent hens) since 1990.

As the new president, he congratulated Mr Felix for his efforts and his time dedicated to the association. He explained that he would try to capitalise on the already achieved work to make sure that the voice of the European poultry meat production will be heard in the EU institutions in Brussels.

He explained his mission will be:

  • to promote, develop and defend the production and processing poultry in the EU
  • with the ambition to maintain the confidence and preference of European consumers
  • while demanding the application of identical and not equivalent rules for imports.

In his new task, Mr Lopez will be assisted by an almost completely renewed team of vice-presidents from four other Member States.

Paul-Heinz Wesjohann, of the Paul-Heinz Wesjohann Group in Germany, (pictured centre) will continue his vice-presidency.

He will be joined by three new vice-presidents who have been appointed during the General Assembly. Piotr Kulikowski, President of the Board of Indykpol, from Poland will join the team as well as Javier Rodriguez, Director General of the Grupo SADA p.a., S.A from Spain and Philip Wilkinson, Executive Director in the 2 Sisters Food Group from the United Kingdom.

The new president took the opportunity to thank Jan Odink from the Netherlands and Bruno Veronesi from Italy, for whom the term as vice-president of a.v.e.c. has ended, for their contribution to the work in a.v.e.c.
