SCOTLAND, UK - A group of independent French fishmongers from Toulouse, the Loire Valley and Paris were the target audience for a marketing push for Scottish salmon by Scottish salmon producers last week.
It is a first-time visit for the long-standing Scottish salmon advocates who were able to see first-hand the crystal clear waters and stunning scenic locations in which salmon grow. The group met with key farm workers who are at the heart of it, and witnessed the impeccably high production standards that underpin the high quality reputation of Scottish salmon.
The visit came ahead of the flagship foodie event, Eat, Drink, Discover Scotland which showcases Scottish salmon as one of the key exhibitors.
In a packed programme delivered over three days, Scottish salmon producers will be joined by Chef Mark Heirs, winner of Masterchef the Professionals and esteemed professional chef, who will deliver a diverse selection of recipes through a series of informal demonstrations on the stand and in the skills theatre.
Scottish Quality Salmon Project Manager, Pierre Maurage, said: “The fishmongers have bought and sold Scottish farmed salmon ever since the early nineties when it first received the prestigious Label Rouge award for outstanding taste and quality.
"Bringing customers to Scotland helps to reaffirm our commitment to producing the highest quality salmon. The fishmongers saw for themselves the pristine environment in which salmon grow and the high production standards that we insist on."
Scottish food bloggers, Hilary Sturzaker and Rachel Gillon will join the team this weekend to demonstrate how they cook salmon at home. Visitors are invited to join in with sampling sessions and encouraged to talk to the Scottish salmon team to find out how salmon reaches their plates.

"We are proud of our industry and our salmon and look forward to showcasing it at the event, giving foodies, food bloggers and chefs the opportunity to appreciate the unique qualities of the Scottish delicacy which, once again this year, has been recognised in an independent poll as the world’s best farmed salmon."
