Subsidies for Meat Production to be Extended until 2018

01 September 2014

RUSSIA - Russian Minister of Agriculture Nikolay Fyodorov has proposed to extend subsidies for the production of poultry meat and pork until 2018.

According to the minister, speaking at a meeting on AIC issues in Kursk Region, these are the industries that can replace imports. Mr Fyodorov explained that the end of subsidies for poultry meat in 2014 and for pork in 2016 made this extension a necessity.

"Adjustments to the government programe have proposed extending the subsidies until 2018," he said, in asking for support of this proposal.

In early August, Russia restricted food imports from countries that imposed sanctions against it, the United States, EU, Canada, Australia and Norway.

The ban included beef, pork, poultry, sausages, fish, vegetables, fruit, dairy, and some other products. Russian agricultural enterprises intend to make up for the shortage of goods by increasing their production.
