RUSSIA - The Russian food safety and veterinary authority Rosselkhoznadzor and Omsk Region border guards have intercepted a vehicle trying to smuggle a shipment of US poultry from Kazakhstan to Russia.
The illegal shipment contained 1,334 boxes with more than 20 tonnes of poultry.
The shipment was not allowed to enter the Russian Federation because it had inappropriate veterinary documents and because of the ban on US poultry imports, following the recent the presidential decree.
According to Rosselkhoznadzor, the shipment was sent back to Kazakhstan and the offender faced prosecution.
On 7 August, Russia imposed a ban on food imports from the European Union, the United States, Canada, Australia and Norway. The list of banned products includes pork, beef, poultry, dairy, fruits and vegetables.
