NETHERLANDS - Meat and food processing equipment manufacturer Marel is to transfer all operations of Marel Meat Processing BV and Marel Benelux BV from Oss to Boxmeer, one of Marel’s core innovation and manufacturing sites.
The aim is to capture synergies and increase Marel's competitiveness by optimising innovation and manufacturing resources and reducing costs.
Marel said the anticipated costs and benefits are expected to be fully in line with the overall aim of the simpler, smarter, and faster refocusing plan, which was launched at the beginning of the year and is proceeding according to plan.
Consultation with the local Works Council and Unions are under way and subject to the outcome of this consultation process, the company aims to complete the transfer before the end of 2014.
This will result in estimated loss 50- 60 positions.
Marel, the Works Council and the Unions will work on a reconciliation of interests and develop a social plan, in order to provide support for those employees affected.
The operations in Oss include activities from IC Meat, PC Skinning and Sales and Service Unit for Marel Benelux and a Manufacturing Center.
Marel's facility in Oss currently employs 140 people. Oss is about 40 kilometres from Boxmeer, whose demonstration centre is picture above.
