11 June 2014

IRELAND - Dawn Meats has been recognised at the ‘Best of Sustainable Supply’ (BoSS) awards as the Global Winner in the Economics category and a finalist in the Water use category.

Dawn Meats was named in McDonald’s “2014 Best of Sustainable Supply” global report, which highlights how suppliers achieve results by identifying opportunities and applying sustainable solutions in diverse places across the world.

More than 600 entries were submitted, with Dawn Meats earning a prestigious place alongside 9 other global winning projects.

McDonald’s leadership and external subject matter experts recognised Dawn Meats for sustainability leadership in the Economics and Water use categories.

This was further enhanced by the confirmation of Dawn Meats as the Global winner in the Economics category. Dawn Meats supplies beef products to 3 major markets in the McDonald’s system in Europe and has been a system supplier for more than 25 years.

Niall Browne Dawn Meats CEO said: “Sustainable practices are core to the Dawn Meats business culture.

“We believe that we have a social and environmental obligation, combined with a business interest, to proactively reduce our emissions, minimise our carbon footprint, conserve natural resources and ensure sustainable practices in our operations.

“Our focus in recent times has been to assist Agricultural projects where knowledge sharing and implementation of best practice in animal health and welfare & grassland management have been key to success.

“We have consistently promoted responsible use of our natural resources to ensure our production systems are both economically and environmentally sustainable. We are honoured and greatly appreciate the Global recognition by McDonald’s and we will continue to challenge one another in developing innovative ideas and solutions with our suppliers and customers.”

Jose Armario, Executive Vice President, McDonald’s Global Supply Chain, Development & Franchising said: “Every year our suppliers focus even more attention on sustainability, applying innovation to make a real difference for the people, communities, animals and environment that touch our supply chain.

“Many of these innovations can bring about more widespread change in our suppliers’ own industries and in broader society. Dawn Meats have been to the forefront in promoting sustainable practices within the McDonald’s beef supply chain and these awards are clear recognition of their leadership and commitment in this area.”

Keith Kenny, Senior Director, McDonald's Supply Chain Europe, said: “At McDonald’s Europe, we recognise that all our suppliers play a vital role in helping us to continuously improve our supply chain sustainability and performance.

“We are very proud that so many case studies from European suppliers were selected for the Best of Sustainable Supply finals.

“These are suppliers whose commitment, innovation and passion for our business really sets them apart. We believe that by working closely together we can make a real difference and it’s fantastic to be able to recognise the achievements of suppliers that are demonstrating sustainability leadership across Europe.”
