BRAZIL - Brazil saw record exports of fresh beef in May as shipments grew both in volume and value compared to the same month last year and compared to the April figures.
Figures released by the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC), show revenue of $489.3 million in the month, up 20.8 per cent from the $ 405.1 million recorded in May last year.
By volume, the increase was 12.2 per cent, from 91 600 tonnes to 102 800 tonnes.
The price rose by 6.2 per cent to $ 4,701 per tonne.
Compared to April, exports of beef also showed growth in revenue (15.8 per cent), volume (12.3 per cent) and price (1.8 per cent)
By comparison, foreign sales of fresh chicken meat dropped by 10 per cent in the revenue in May compared to the same period last year, falling from $ 672 million to $ 605.4 million.
As the volume remained virtually unchanged in the same comparison (+0.5 per cent), up from 313 300 tonnes to 314 900 tonnes exported, the decrease in revenues was driven by a 10.5 per cent drop in the price of U.S. $ 1922 / t in the last month.
Compared to April, revenue and prices have increased 2.5 per cent and 3.5 per cent, respectively, while the volume of fresh chicken exports fell slightly by 1 per cent. yet the MDIC reports that exports of fresh pork rose from $ 102.8 million in May 2013 to $ 110 million in May 2014, up by seven per cent.
The increase in revenues came from a 22.5 per cent jump in the price (U.S. $ 3,385 / t), since there was a decrease of 12.6 per cent in export volume of 37 200 tonnes to 32 500 tonnes .
Compared to the April figures, income and price in increased 1.29 per cent and 14.4 per cent respectively, while the export volume declined 11.4 per cent.
YTD From January to May, exports of fresh beef totalled $ 2.256 billion, an increase of 13.1 per cent compared to $ 1.995 million for the same period last year.
In volume, the high is 14.2 per cent from 437 400 tonnes to 499 700 tonnes.
Foreign sales of chicken meat saw total revenue of $ 2.666 billion in the first five months of the year, a fall of 3.6 per cent compared to revenues of $ 2.765 billion in the same period of 2013.
By volume, sales are up 1.2 per cent from 1.441 million tonnes exported to 1.459 million tonnes.
Exports of fresh pork in the year to date had small increase of 0.5 per cent, reaching $ 478.9 million in 2014 compared to $ 476.6 million in 2013.
However, in volume, there is a fall of four per cent of 168.5 tons to 161,800 tonnes.
