EU Pig Prices: Barbecue Weather at Last - Prices About to Go Up28 May 2014
EU - The quotations are still on hold for the European pig slaughter market this new week of slaughter.
Nothing has changed about the scarce quantities of live pigs on offer.
Pigs for slaughter are a well demanded issue. Yet, nothing’s going to happen without a decisive signal given from Germany. The quotations do show none or, as is the case in Spain, only marginal changes.
As pessimists said, the weather proved to be rather humid and cool over the past weeks, so the barbecue season did not really kick into gear. Furthermore, impetus was slack on the meat market. It is a remarkable fact that two German slaughter companies paid extra charges at the same time.
Nowhere else but in France the quotation went down by a corrected 4.1 cents, thus reducing the gap towards the European mid-field. With its corrected 1.621 euros per kg slaughter weight, the French price level still exceeds the German, Danish and Dutch quotations.
Trend for the German market:
Pessimism and bad-weather arguments are a thing of the past right now. Since the beginning of the weekend, summerlike temperatures and rays of sunlight make people feel like barbecuing again, after all those weeks of rainy days. There is accumulated needs among the consumers. The domestic market will be buoyed by a tailwind from the demand for barbecue meat over the next days. So, the prices will increase noticeably then. The positive situation is also reflected in today’s Internet Pig Auction’s results.
