US - A defamation case filed against the news network ABC, correspondents and others by Beef Products Inc looks set to go ahead following a decision by a South Dakota court.
The South Dakota Supreme Court denied the network and other defendants a petition to review the case.
The court also lifted a stay that was issued in April that prevented the lawsuits discovery process to begin, according to a report on Greenville Online.
Beef products sued the television network in 2012 seeking $1.2 billion in damages following coverage of the company’s meat product – lean finely textured beef, which critics had called “pink slime”.
BPI maintains that the coverage by ABC led to the closure of three plants and the loss of about 700 jobs because it misled consumers into believing the product was unsafe.
