DENMARK - After many years as Denmark’s “Mr Beef”, CEO of DC Beef Lorenz Hansen has decided to hand over as head of Denmark’s largest cattle slaughterhouse.
The handover will take place in conjunction with the official opening of the new cattle slaughterhouse in Holsted, and from 1 October 2014, Sales Director of DC Beef Finn Klostermann, aged 48, will take over the reins.
Finn Klostermann has been part of DC Beef since 2007 – joining as Deputy Chief Executive before taking over as Sales Director in 2009.
He has a strong background in the industry and possesses considerable experience from both Denmark and internationally. Moreover, he comes with in-depth knowledge of the organisation and the markets in which DC Beef is present.
“We were in no doubt that Finn Klostermann was an extremely strong candidate. Nevertheless, the recruitment process has comprised all the normal professional market searches, tests and interviews. This process has only confirmed our impression of Finn Klostermann as the person who can lead DC Beef into the future, while at the same time representing a generational change of management,” said Peder Philipp, Chairman of the Board of Directors of DC Beef.
The past few years have been dominated by the construction of the first new cattle slaughterhouse to be built in Denmark for decades. Lorenz Hansen, who turns 66 in October, first voiced his desire to step down about eighteen months ago, but agreed to see his vision through to completion before retiring on 30 September.
“There is no doubt in my mind that Lorenz Hansen deserves much of the credit for the fact that DC Beef is now Denmark’s largest cattle slaughterhouse and a division which for a number of years has been able to pay constantly increasing prices to the owners, thereby retaining its market share in a situation where Danish production is declining. Lorenz Hansen has used his long-standing experience from working in the beef market and his considerable insights into working processes as well as opportunities for innovation to build the position which DC Beef occupies today,” added Mr Philipp.
Overall responsibility for DC Beef remains in the hands of Lorenz Hansen until the official changeover.
