US Poultry Company Looks to Build Two Plants

23 January 2014

US - A Pennsylvania poultry company is to expand its operation that would nearly double its 1,200 work force.

Bell and Evans want to build a processing plant and hatchery on a Bethel Township property about two miles from their existing Farmers Pride processing plant in Fredericksburg.

Details of the plan were presented to the Lebanon County commissioners this week, according to a report in the Lebanon Daily News.

The new plant is expected to create 400 new jobs and will be built by 2015.

However, the company also has plans for another plant to keep up with growing demand, the report says.

Bell and Evans is looking to move into a property owned by Keystone Protein, which operates a rendering plant.
The second plant would create a further 1,000 jobs.

The company also has plans to build a hatchery on the parcel to supply local poultry farmers with chicks that would eventually come back to the plant when full grown.
