Over Half of Meat Now Comes From Inspected Establishments14 January 2014
MEXICO – The cattle industry has been praised for advances made in the amount of beef processed in federally inspected slaughterhouses.
The Ministry of Agriculture (SAGARPA) has revealed that 51 per cent of meat consumed in Mexico now comes from Federally Inspected Establishments.
Nine years ago this figure was at 32 per cent.
SAGARPA says this offers greater food quality assurance to consumers eating the end product.
The achievement has been partly attributed to the Cattle Meat Executive committee and the collaborative work overseen in the supply chain.
The committee comprises the Mexican Association of Feedlot Cattle (AMEG), the National Confederation of Livestock Organisations (CNOG) , the Mexican Meat Council and the National Association of Federally Inspected Establishments (ANETIF).
