China to Drive Uruguayan Red Meat in 201412 December 2013
URUGUAY – China is the ‘great engine’ which will drive red meat demand, said National Meat Institute (INAC) analyst Paul Caputi earlier this week.
In his summary of the 2014 red meat outlook, INAC's director of information and economic analysis, Mr Caputi explained that Uruguay can capitalise on Chinese demand if domestic consumption stays constant.
The Asian giant is expected to drive demand, along with the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) in the coming year.
Mr Caputi also outlined restructuring in the US as further opportunity to sell more beef.
He added that limitations in Uruguay’s herd size and industrial processing capacity will limit growth.
