Gambian Govt Lifts Ban on Chicken Leg Imports04 December 2013
GAMBIA - The Gambian Government is to lift a five-month long ban on the import of chicken legs.
According to Daily Observer, a press release from the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment, however informed the business community that importation of poultry products will not be accepted into the Gambian market.
The release said: "All imports of poultry products will therefore be accompanied by an ‘SGD Test Certificate’ indicating that the product meets National Food Safety Standards with no use of Hormones.
"Any imported consignment of poultry product for which there is indication of use of Hormones will not be accepted in The Gambia.
"The general public is assured that the government of The Gambia will continue to adopt measures to protect consumers and ensure food safety for all. The cooperation and understanding of all importers is highly solicited,” it concluded.
