Brazilian Pork Quotations Moving Up06 November 2013
BRAZIL - Pork quotes continued to rise in early October, hitting consecutive records, according to Brazil's Center for Advanced Studies on Applied Economics (CEPEA).
This scenario, added to recent price drops of beef and broiler, has reduced competitiveness of pork compared to other meats in the wholesale market of greater São Paulo.
Hogs quotes are also the highest of Cepea’s historical series (started in 2004), in nominal terms.
In general terms, pork quotes are underpinned by the limited supply of animals.
The weight of animals is below the desirable to slaughter, and, moreover, producers surveyed by Cepea say that the sow volume decreased last year, because of high costs.
Consumption has been adjusting to supply.
