Australian Offal Export Values Up04 November 2013
AUSTRALIA - During August, the export value of Australian beef and sheep meat offal remained firm on July, totalling A$44 million, up 15 per cent on year-ago levels and taking the January to August total to A$303 million – up two per cent year-on-year according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
Meat and Livestock Australia said that the export value of offal to Japan in August totalled A$17 million, up two per cent both year-on-year and on the five-year average. Underpinning the increased value, August saw beef tongue shipments increase 20 per cent year-on-year, to 784 tonnes, as tongue prices reduced 17 per cent over the same period, to average A$9.26/kg.
Similarly, the value of offal exports to Hong Kong increased 131 per cent on August last year, totalling A$8 million, with beef tripe (2,080 tonnes) volumes up 37 per cent year-on-year, despite tripe prices up 42 per cent over the same period, at A$2.99/kg.
Offal exports to Korea were valued at A$5 million in August, up 12 per cent year-on-year, with shipments of beef intestines and skirt up 86 per cent and 79 per cent at 555 tonnes and 355 tonnes, respectively.
