Forbes Saleyard Sees Record Lamb Throughput27 September 2013
AUSTRALIA – Analysts at Forbes Saleyard reported record throughput this week with sheep at a 12 year high and record lamb yardings.
Total headage was 51,634 with almost 40,000 lambs and 11,687 sheep, the highest sheep number since 2001.
Markets experts suggest that rains the previous week restricted. This caused a fall in prices as demand could not match the 21,000 ‘well-finished’ young lambs as supply surged.
Light ‘three score’ lambs managed A$87.60/head, down $5, while young lambs were $3 lower at $103.80/head.
Mutton quality was mixed with Merinos making up most of the yard. Ewe prices lifted $1 averaging $54.90/head.
