Spanish Milk Production Dips in July10 September 2013
SPAIN – Spanish milk production fell by about 30 per cent below contract stipulations for cattle and sheep farms , according to official data for July.
Inlac data indicates July cows’ milk contracts reached 468,537 million litres for the month, corresponding to 76 per cent of average monthly supply quota.
Sheep milk data reports a similar shortfall. Production reached 31.774 million litres – 70 per cent of average monthly production.
Contractual considerations will be key for the future of the sector following the reform of the supply chain last year, say Inlac analysts.
The Royal decree, which formed the ‘milk package’ on 28 September 2012, is making an impact by granting producers more power and resolving supply chain issues.
