Meat Packer Fined by GIPSA09 August 2013
US - An Ohio meat packer has been fined $27,500 by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration (GIPSA) for breeches of the fair trade practice and payment protection law.
J.H. Routh of Sandusky, Ohio failed to accurately maintain the identity of each seller’s livestock and the carcases derived from the livestock.
It also failed to provide true written accountings of livestock transactions to sellers; and failed to make settlement and final payment for livestock on the actual hot carcass weights.
In another settlement, Farmer Grown Poultry, LLC of Fort Atkinson, Iowa was fined $7,000 for failing to pay live poultry dealers.
