Paraguay Given Beef Approval By Chile10 July 2013
PARAGUAY - All government registered abattoirs in Paraguay are now able to market beef to Chile following the decision of the Agricultural and Livestock Service to lift all restrictions previously placed on the industry.
The rule adaptation applies to the 400 National Health Service for Food Safety and Quality (SENASCA) registered establishments across the country.
Producers wishing to market beef to Chile are required to complete a SENASCA verification, this will include a producer card with a n electronic chip that records the certification process and monitors the transit of animals.
The recovery of the market in Chile is because of joint work between SENASCA, private businesses brought together under the National Programme for the Eradiation of Foot and Mouth.
State Spokesmen believe the announcement will lead to a better functioning market place.
One representative commented: "This new situation causes happiness for farmers as it will serve to decompress the domestic market where we had an oversupply at different refrigerators with a view to export."
Health authorities are currently working on a veterinary supervisory plan to monitor abattoirs and certify inspection staff at the plants.
