Short-Circuit Caused Poultry Plant Fire26 June 2013
CHINA - An investigation found that an electrical short circuit caused a deadly fire in a slaughterhouse in Jilin province on 3 June that killed 121 people.
The short circuit caused inflammable materials to catch fire at the Jilin Baoyuanfeng Poultry Co and also caused the leakage and explosion of ammonia, according to the investigation team.
Liquid ammonia is usually kept pressurised as part of the cooling system in meat processing plants.
