JBS Acquires US Operations of XL Foods05 April 2013
US - JBS USA, a wholly owned subsidiary of JBS S.A, is to complete the purchase certain US operations of XL Foods on Monday, 8 April.
The deal will see JBS USA will assume ownership of the XL properties in the US including a beef packing plant in Omaha, Nebraska, with capacity to process 1,100 head of cattle a day and a beef packing plant in Nampa, Idaho, with capacity to process 1,100 head of cattle a day. The beef processing plant in Nampa is currently idle and the company has no immediate plans to reopen the facility.
The deal completes the agreement between JBS and XL Foods, which was originally announced on 17 October last year.
On 14 January this year, the company completed the acquisition of some Canadian operations of XL Foods including a beef packing plant in Brooks, a beef packing plant in Calgary, a feedlot in Brooks and the adjacent farmland acreage supporting the feedlot operation, all in the Province of Alberta.
JBS said it will not be assuming any of XL Foods’ debt or liabilities.
