Fresh Chilean Salmon Shipped with No Oxygen Technology04 April 2013
GLOBAL - Global Fresh Foods has shipped fresh salmon from Chile to the west coast of the US without using ice, environmentally harmful polystyrene foam packaging or costly and environmentally damaging air freight.
GFF’s technology completely removes oxygen from the shipment so the fish can arrive in the destination market with the same fresh quality as the day it came from the sea.
With this technology, west coast seafood distributors now have the option to receive by ocean freight, rather than by air, making it easier to provide a consistent supply of products around the world.
Global Fresh Foods says its solution offers a way to radically extend the fresh shelf life of fish, a result that has been tested and verified by independent laboratories.
“Our first shipment of Chilean salmon to the west coast demonstrates that the seafood industry finally has the technology that compares to the perishable meat industry where the supply chain process is often 40-50 days long,” said Mark Barnekow, chief executive officer of Global Fresh Foods.
“By being able keep the fresh qualities of fish longer there, are new opportunities for suppliers, distributors and retailers alike.”
Global Fresh Foods collaborated with Lusamerica Foods, known for its innovation and sustainability in the seafood industry, to bring the shipment to the west coast.

Global Fresh Foods said it expects to continue its shipments of fresh salmon from Chile, extending from its current east coast programme, as well as commencing shipments to Japan later this month.
