Hong Kong Eases Way for Chilean Meat Exports26 March 2013
CHILE - Hong Kong has formally recognised the Agriculture and Livestock Service of Chile (SAG) as a competent authority, opening the way for meat exports.
The move has brought closer economic and trade relations between Chile and Hong Kong.
The move, which will allow inspections to take place in Hong Kong as well as certification from the Chilean authorities will open the door to more livestock products to enter Hong KOng and ease market relations.
This recognition is critical to the meat sector, particularly poultry and pigs, as it helps the logistics in the port of goods to Asia.
Hong Kong is 14th out of the 79 countries that are export destinations for livestock products from Chile.
In 2012, exports reached $26,178,000.
