Horse DNA in “KAVOURMA” Meat Product

GREECE - Laboratory tests carried out by the Hellenic Food Authority (EFET) have found horse DNA in a sample of chicken nugget products following corresponding controls conducted by EFET's Regional Directorate of Attiki.

The DNA was found in the meat product named “KAVOURMAS” with the trade name “ANANIADIS Traditional Meat Products”, which is produced and packaged for “ANANIADIS AVEE” company based in the city of Kavala by “ARISTI ALLANTIKA AVEE” based at Egaleo of Attiki.

The product has not been on the market and the entire batch has been detained in the storage facilities of “ANANIADIS AVEE” in the city of Kavala following immediate actions by EFET's Regional Directorate of East Macedonia and Thrace.

EFET said that as far as laboratory controls in the whole range of the food chain are concerned, 115 samples from various types of products have been taken. Out of the 39 samples analysed until now there have been five positive results.
