Illegal Sheep Meat Impounded20 March 2013
FRANCE - After being investigated for horse meat, French meat business Spanghero this week found itself back in hot water.
On Tuesday, government sources revealed the presence of 57 tonnes of sheep meat amongst the inventory impounded in February.
Originating from the UK, the meat had been recovered using a process banned under EU trade rules for the human food chain.
French food minister Guillaume Garot told journalists that product recalls would be launched for items such as spicy merguez sausages and any other charcuterie that might contain meat from the rest of the original consignment.
Spanghero insisted that it had ordered minced lamb and had taken delivery of the product in good faith.
