Kosher Supplier Manischewitz Achieves Friend of the Sea Certification

USA - The Manischewitz Company has successfully undergone Friend of the Sea audit of its sustainable fish suppliers and chain of custody verification.

Manischewitz anchovies, sardines and mackerel products can now carry the international sustainability seal of approval.

The status of the stocks of anchovies (Engraulis encrasicolus) sardines (Sardinas pilchardus) and mackerel (Scomber scombrus) from which Manischewitz is sourcing are verified periodically by the Agriculture and Fishery Ministry and are found to be not overexploited (FAO AREA 34).

Purse seine fishing does not impact the seabed and it is very selective.

Fishing gears comply with local regulations, both for net and mesh size and the fishing activity respects Marine Protected Areas.

Manischewitz is America's largest manufacturer of processed kosher food products including baked goods, pastas, soups, a wide range of canned and jarred products like gefilte fish, grape juice and borscht. The B. Manischewitz Company, LLC traces its beginnings back to the spring of 1888, when Rabbi Dov Behr Manischewitz opened a small Matzo bakery in Cincinnati, Ohio.
