Authorities Seize Fresh Poultry21 December 2012
MALTA - As Christmas Day approaches and preparations for family meals are underway, authorities have sealed over 100kg of fresh poultry from Italy because of traceability issues.
According to MaltaToday, the Environmental Health Directorate and the Veterinary and Phytosanitary Regulatory Department sealed over 106kg of fresh poultry products due to lack of traceability and around 8kg of whole chicken, which was being marketed of Maltese origin when it was originating in Italy.
The authorities said that these products were sealed from two different outlets and legal action will be initiated.
In a statement issued on Thursday (20 December), the government said: "Once again, food business operators are being reminded of their duties in particular to ensure traceability of the food supply and that truthful information is displayed to consumers."
