Salmonella Found on Skaraborg Dairy Farm

SWEDEN - For the first time in six years salmonella has been identified on a dairy farm in the Skovde region of Sweden.

Bacteria found during the slaughtering of cows alerted national veterinary authorities who later confirmed that there was a salmonella infection at the Skovde dairy, Swedish Milk have announced.

In response the farm has been quarantined, movement restrictions have been imposed and remediation work has begun on the site. The lockdown is expected to continue until the summer.

Ulf Lövdahl, Senior Veterinarian, told TV4 that animal health staff hope to remove the infection from the herd and that trace infection spread and control through monitoring the passage of feed, birdlife and bought animals can be limited.
