ABP UK Wins Green Apple Award

14 November 2012

UK - Meat processor, ABP has been awarded a Green Apple prize in recognition of the company's work on water efficiency carried out at the ABP Sturminster Newton site in Dorset.

The award was presented to teh company at a ceremony in the Hourses of Parliament in London this week.

Since ABP purchased this facility in 2009 we have carried out an extensive modernisation programme which has included a major project to reduce water use in all areas of the facility. This work has included a number of projects including the better monitoring of water use and some highly innovative aspects such as the installation of a reverse osmosis system for the re-use and recycling of water.

Tom Kirwan, Managing Director of ABP UK said: "This is a great achievement for ABP UK and the Sturminster Newton site in particular. It is always nice to receive independent recognition for the hard work carried out by our team especially when this work is focused on addressing a key sustainability issue for the meat industry.

"All industries have a responsibility to manage water sustainably and we believe the work we have carried out to reduce water use has made a small but important contribution.
