Workers Strike at Meat JBS Plant

21 June 2012

AUSTRALIA - Workers at the JBS Australia Fitzroy meat works, near Rockhampton, are expected to go on strike tomorrow (Friday) after more than 12 months of negotiations over pay and conditions.

According to ABC Rural, the Australian Meat Industry Employees Union says 250 union members planned to stop work on Friday for four hours.

However, the company has decided to close the whole plant, affecting 500 workers.

The union claims that 85 per cent of the workers were in favour of industrial action, claiming they had not had a wage increase for two years.
