Poultry Association Denies Collusion

12 January 2012

CHILE - The Poultry Producers Association of Chile (APA) has denied any involvement in ongoing poultry price collusion.

In December the Public Prosecutors Office (FNE) accused APA and three poultry companies of collaborating together to control poultry meat prices.

The case is now being investigated by the Chilean Competition Committee (Tribunal de Libre Competencia, (TDLC).

Giving evidence to the committee, APA has said that since its establishment in 1991 it has represented the poultry sector at national and international levels.

It denies any involvement in setting price limit or production quotas and says it is unaware of any companies involved in such practices.

APA says that an agreement of this sort would not make sense in a country like Chile, who are one of the world's largest exporters of poultry meat and the price of poultry is subject to international markets.

APA says that it will provide any information required by the Committee as it is in its best interest to clear the case as soon as possible.
