NFU DG Joins Moy Park As Non-Exec Director

04 March 2010

UK - The former director general of the National Farmers' Union, Richard Macdonald CBE, has joined Moy Park as a non-executive director.

Mr Macdonald took up the position at the beginning of February 2010 and will join the Moy Park Board working closely with the Executive team and CEO, Nigel Dunlop.

He will become the first non-executive to join the board of directors since Mr Dunlop joined Moy Park in 2008.

His role will build on Moy Park’s industry leading position in Agriculture, Farming and Welfare and their 550 poultry farmers across Northern Ireland and England. Richard’s strong links with the UK farming community complements Moy Park's position and will deliver significant benefit to the business.

Mr Macdonald joined the NFU in 1977 and was director general from 1996 until December 2009. He had overall responsibility for the management of the NFU and for policy advice to the organisation, as well as critical roles in the BSE and Foot and Mouth disease crises.

He has wide knowledge and experience of farming, the food industry and government affairs. In June 2002 Mr Macdonald was awarded the CBE for Services to Agriculture in the Queen's Birthday Honours. He also sits on the Defra Strategy for Sustainable Farming and Food Implementation Group, as well as being a trustee of Farm Africa and a governor of the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester.

Nigel Dunlop, CEO Moy Park, said: “We are delighted to appoint Richard to this pivotal position on our board of directors. Moy Park holds farming at its core and Richard’s career to date has been all about supporting UK farmers. With his strong capabilities and depth of understanding of the business, he will be instrumental in further developing Moy Parks’ position within the UK agriculture industry.”
