Poultry Industry Sets out Machine Safety Guidelines

US - The guidelines and checklists were developed by the Joint Poultry Industry Safety and Health Council to help poultry companies address critical safety issues prior to purchasing and using new equipment.

The National Chicken Council (NCC) and the National Turkey Federation (NTF), through their joint Alliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), are making available voluntary guidelines and supporting checklists to help the poultry industry minimize injuries due to machine hazards in the workplace.

The guidelines and checklists were developed by the Joint Poultry Industry Safety and Health Council and were designed to help poultry companies address critical safety issues prior to purchasing new equipment and prior to installing and starting up new equipment.

Guidance is also provided on conducting safety audits after new equipment has been operating for a short period of time to ensure that safety and health considerations have been properly evaluated and addressed to reduce employee exposure to potential hazards.
